1980's Blocher Columbus SLX

This very nice 1980's Blocher was made in Le Perreux sur Marne, France, at the workshops of  former  Professional road man Jean-Claude Blocher ( Kova-Lejeune 1973, Jobo-Lejeune 1974, Wolber-Lejeune 1975).
This frame being a very specific size (57 1/2cm seat tube, 56 top tube) means this is most probably a special order frame. The frame is made of Columbus SLX with Campagnolo drop outs, and shows all the signs you would expect to see on a high end artisan built French race bike of the period, crisp sharp brazing throughout, fully chromed rear triangle and forks, custom paint fade and very cool two colour stencil spray painted down tube writing and head logo.
The Frame has no dents and has been fully aligned and is straight and true. The chrome does have some light pitting in places, please refer photos.

On my 60 km shake down ride I found the bike to be quite precise and very responsive, the short rear triangle made acceleration from the lights feel very immediate. I also noticed that this short rear end and stiff frame also made climbing out of bends and any out of the saddle riding generally feel extremely responsive to power applied which felt good.
The bike rides quietly, and the Campagnolo gears run smoothly up and down the 8 speed range, I was also impressed with the Suntour Superbe Pro brakes, which work very positively, even when riding on the hoods, which makes riding fast in traffic feel as safe as you can....when riding in traffic.
Although I didn't ride the bike far enough to experience this, I do know that these short rear triangles and stiffly built  frames can make riding long distances (over about 3-4 hours for me) a bit tiresome, as this geometry tends to induce a bit of choppiness into the ride quality, although a set of 28mm tyres would probably go a long way to remedy this.
Over all I would say that this is a bike for someone looking for a fast aggressive boutique built classic, rather than a dry day Sunday shiny cruiser.
